Dr. Lenita Hanson received her undergraduate training through the City University of New York and her residency and fellowship training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New York. She is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She is also certified in diabetes education, insulin pump therapy and thyroid fine needle aspirations. Dr. Hanson is a fellow of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and is an active member of several medical committees.

Dr. Hanson limits her practice to Adult Endocrinology and Diabetes with her main office located in Venice, Florida. Creating a model clinic, Dr. Hanson has opened a satellite Nurse Practitioner clinic and works closely with certified diabetes educators, registered dietitians and diabetes specialty groups to create a team approach to diabetes care for her patients.

Dr. Hanson sponsored the Living Smart Diabetes Self Management Program in 2002 as an added resource for her patients with diabetes. Today, the Living Smart Diabetes Self Management Program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association and serves to meet a community need as a community outreach program. Dr. Hanson serves as coordinator for three American Diabetes Association education-recognized sites, with classes held in: Port Charlotte, Englewood, Venice, North Port and Punta Gorda. She also does oversight for two free monthly diabetes community resource groups and an annual diabetes health fair.

Dr. Hanson was selected to appear on the cover of "Woman's Lifestyle Magazine". In the article about her in the magazine, she answered the following questions:
